Medication Carts for hospital use
What are medication carts and what are they for?
Medication carts are medical carts used for the orderly storage and dispensing of medications to patients. They are essential for both hospitals and nursing homes to maintain order and the correct administration of medication to multiple patients, thus avoiding possible errors in medications, dosages and schedules when dispensing to patients.
What types of medication carts are there?
Medication carts are classified according to the type of dosage or way of distributing the medication. The different solutions available successfully cover (while minimizing errors) the different needs of nursing homes and medical centers or hospitals.
The distribution of medications can be:
- Pouch Porter System: The computerized data (doses per days and schedules) of each patient are placed in a hermetically sealed blister pack. With the doses well placed and labeled (Pouch Porter Systems are also labeled with the names of the medications included), they represent a great reduction in medication errors. La Pastilla Pouches medication carts dispensers are specifically designed to store and transport the dispensing devices for this type of medication.
- Medication through weekly trays:Weekly trays or weekly pill dispensers (or trays with multiple daily pill dispenser coupling) are also widely used for good practice and safety when dispensing medication. Our trolleys are equipped with wide trays designed for the coupling of medication trays, with the marking of days of the week and hours.
- Blister Medication: Another widely used option is through blister packs. The good storage and order of these is key in their distribution and for this purpose our specific medication distribution trolleys are designed to distribute medication through blisters
Finally, we also have within the wide range of medical trolleys for medication dispensing use, the unit dose medication trolleys and themedical workstation, both with a much more common use in hospitals than in nursing homes.
What other types of carts are used in nursing homes?
Within the field of senior care, it is very useful for nursing homes to have some medical carts in addition to medication carts. In this line, the most commonly used trolleys are the treatment trolleys suitable for nursing tasks and also the linen carts, necessary for the daily hygiene tasks of all kinds of household items such as sheets, towels, etc.
